Pre-Conference Tour

Our pre-conference tour explores the mountain town of Park City. It began as a silver mining town, nearly faded into history as a ghost town, and then re-invented itself as a ski town that hosts events such as the 2002 Winter Olympics and the Sundance Film Festival. The tour will take you to the Utah Olympic Park, which is a winter sports park built for the 2002 Winter Olympics. A knowledgeable tour guide will accompany us, and we’ll drive to the top of the world’s highest Nordic ski jumps and one of the fastest sliding tracks in the world. You will learn of Olympic achievements and the particularities of the Utah Olympic Park. Afterward, you will tour the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center, home to Alf Engen Ski Museum and Eccles Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum. This sports center highlights the history of skiing disciplines in the intermountain region through interactive touchscreen displays, videos, virtual reality skiing theater, games, and topographical maps. You can also experience the 2002 Olympic Winter Games through a gallery of photos, stories, displays, and videos. At the center of Park City is Historic Main Street. You will have time to explore the independent boutiques, art galleries, and Park City Museum or enjoy lunch at one of the 50 restaurants. We will have time to walk through the Park Silly Sunday Market, an eco-friendly, open-air market and street festival on Historic Main Street. You will find delicious gourmet foods, locally produced foods, and local and regional arts and crafts.
