Hello Publishing and Graphic Design SIG Members! We thought we’d start the new ACE year by telling you a little about ourselves, what our roles are in the SIG leadership team, and what we hope to accomplish this year.
Ana Henke, chair
Extension/Experiment Station Publications Supervisor, University Communications and Marketing Services
New Mexico State University
My job as chair is to keep SIG members updated on ACE business through our monthly newsletter and to coordinate joint-SIG webinars and collect resource recommendations. Please contact me if you’re interested in developing, presenting, or co-presenting a webinar on SIG-specific topics and I’ll put you in touch with folks with similar ideas. Also, if you have resources that you’ve found particularly useful (whether you’ve developed them yourself or not), send me the links, PDFs, etc. and I’ll share in our SIG newsletter and forward to Melea to post to our online pages. If we each contribute a little, we’ll all benefit!NOTE: The Electronic Media and Photography SIG is interested in collaborating again with us on a webinar and the tentative topic of Best Practices for Working with Photographers was mentioned. If anyone is interested in developing this webinar with them, please contact me!

My job as vice chair is to round up judges for our Critique & Awards classes. If you have ideas for great judges, please send them my way!
Melea Reicks Licht, vice chair-elect
Director of Alumni Relations, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Iowa State University
I coordinate alumni communications and events at the college level. I’m also the editor of STORIES—the college's award-winning alumni magazine. I edit the college's alumni e-newsletter, co-direct social media efforts, and publicize alumni lectures and events. I have served on the outreach and education committee of the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association, assisted with planning for the 2009 ACE national conference and co-led ACE workshops on work/life balance.
Speaking of our Facebook SIG group page, feel free to post photos or a graphic you’ve designed with the name of our SIG for our cover image. We’ll use the photo or design with the most likes as our cover image for a month and then rotate other popular submissions during the year!

These are printed pieces with interesting (machine or hand) folds. I love watching these every Thursday. It’s just one of the things I look at for inspiration of ideas, should there ever be a similar request.
Publishing Tips. http://aces.nmsu.edu/pubs/guidelines/publishing-tip-of-the-mo.html
Submitted by Ana Henke, Publications Supervisor, NMSU
Publishing Tips are intended to assist faculty and staff as they develop publications for submission to the NMSU Extension/Experiment Station Publications unit, and for anyone interested in developing high-quality, professional print materials.
Submitted by Jennifer Alexander, Publications Manager, OSUA weekly e-newsletter featuring InDesign tips, advice, and shortcuts.Umagainology Blog. http://umagazinology.jhu.edu
Submitted by Melea Reicks Licht, Director of Alumni Relations, ISU
UMagazinology is offered as a service to the community of alumni magazine editors, writers, and designers by Johns Hopkins Magazine and the Johns Hopkins University Office of Communications. The views expressed in its posts are those of the individual authors, not of the magazine or university. Right now the current post features the work of Iowa State University Alumni Association colleagues with their “VISIONS Across America” special edition.
All the best from your SIG leadership,
