2016 Award of Excellence, Research
Lauri Baker

Lauri Baker is a Kansas State University associate professor in agricultural communications. She is a prolific researcher, publishing 18 refereed journal articles and securing more than $1 million in extramural, competitive funds. She has authored and co-authored 26 refereed papers, oral presentations, and abstracts, in addition to 22 posters.

Many of the articles, papers, and posters are co-authored with undergraduate and graduate students she has mentored. She is a role model for involving undergraduate students in research. These students go on to present at regional and national conferences, helping them see the impact of their work and network with professionals.

Dr. Baker is a reviewer for the Journal of Applied Communication. She has served as the academic programs vice chair and chair (2014-2015). She is also the secretary for the agricultural communication section of the Southern Association of Agricultural Sciences. She has published eight articles in JAC.

In addition, she has authored and co-authored five refereed papers/oral presentations/abstracts at ACE meetings and presented seven workshops/sessions at ACE. Her presentations are often standing-room-only because they are based on solid research.
