Welcome Writing is basic to our communication profession. If your work requires that you communicate thoughts with words, you should consider membership in this Special Interest Group (SIG). We target practitioners or teachers of news writing, magazine writing, promotional writing, script writing and writing in special publications, for social media and for the web. SIG members discuss writing as it relates to their work, sharing ideas, techniques and samples of good writing.
ACE Conference 2012, Annapolis
We hope SIG members will be able to join us for the 2012 ACE Conference in Annapolis. Our regular SIG business meeting will be held Wednesday, June 13, at 10:15 a.m. during breakout session 8.
If you are not able to attend, look for sessions that will be shown live online on the conference website.
The Writing SIG needs to choose a vice-chair elect, who will serve with next year's Chair Steve Miller and Vice-Chair Natalie Hampton. Nominees don't have to attend the meeting -- if you're looking for a way to get more involved in ACE, submit your name to one of this year's officers, listed below. Any officers would be happy to explain the duties to those who are interested.

Communication Pathways in Modern Society May 21, 2012, 11 a.m. Eastern time, 10 a.m. Central
Professor Donald Shaw, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will give a new perspective on the agenda-setting theory of communication. Don Shaw and Max McCombs developed their communications theory in the 1960s, and Shaw has new research that explores vertical and horizontal communication in our society. His findings about communication pathways in society may influence how we write and publish to the general public.
