Summary of SIG business meeting at annual conference:
Number of members attending: 21
Topics of discussion, decisions, plans, etc.: The summary of our business meeting is attached. In brief, the members all introduced themselves, and the leaders pointed them to the SIG Web site to see reports from the previous year, solicited ideas for goals for the coming year and announced that we would cover selected conference sessions for the benefit of those who could not attend. Then we discussed the economic situation in various states and discussed ways we could help each other meet client needs with less funding.

How are the leadership responsibilities being divided among the officers?
Natalie Johnson is coordinating the C&A judge selection and rules review. She is also writing a letter to be sent to new SIG members.
Meg Ashman will coordinate nominations for awards. She is also working with Kim Parker and Sue Keller to update the SIG site.
Diane Bowen is writing and distributing a monthly newsletter for all SIG members (with contributions from and review by Natalie and Meg), planning and conducting the monthly SIG leader teleconferences, writing the reports for the ACE board.

How are SIG leaders communicating with members, and on what schedule?
An e-mail newsletter is sent out monthly. So far, there have been issues in August and September.

How are SIG leaders encouraging members to communicate with each other?
The members already are sending out queries via e-mail for advice and opinions on various issues. If this activity ebbs, the SIG leaders plan to “prime the pump” by posing a question of publishing concern to the SIG.

What is the status of the SIG Web site?
 It is being updated monthly.

What steps will you take to solicit nominations for the Award of Excellence? How will the SIG select its Award of Excellence?
Meg Ashman will solicit nominations from SIG members via e-mail and the chair, vice chair and vice-chair elect will make the final selection.

What steps are you taking to encourage members to submit articles and reviews to JAC?
We plan to put a note about JAC opportunities in the newsletter.
