I. Welcome/Call to Order.
Outgoing chair, Carol Whately, called the meeting to order and went over the past year accomplishments of the Publishing Special Interest Group (SIG). This was the same list she provided to the ACE Board
II. Introduction of new officers
(Robert Casler, chair; Melanie Spencer, vice-chair; Debby Weitzel, vice-chair elect, regional reps.)
III. What do we want to do with our budget of $300 in the coming year?
Some discussion on this... some state's help pay new ACE memberships. We will probably discuss this more during the year.
IV. Discussion
J. Winn (Texas) appreciated the judging comments this year from C and A. Carol said we had trouble with a few of the judges (one of the judging forms for a category didn't match the submission requirements.) The new chairman's responsibilities is to select judges for next year's C and A.
Bob Furbee reinforced the idea of our Publishing SIG having regional reps. The Publishing SIG is the only SIG that has reg. reps.
Debby Weitzel (Colorado) said she was interested in purchasing popular publications from other states (at discount of course) and selling them for markup out of her state's distribution center. She's looking for "products" to sell.
Judy Winn, and the group, thanked Meg Ashman and Kim Parker (Vermont) and Sue Keller (Alaska) for setting up our web page. Meg asked for suggestions on what we could add to it. Judy suggested putting a list of recommended printers, someone suggested more professional development opportunities, we talked about posting job openings, and a list of each member, with photo and job descriptions.
Jerry Adams (Idaho) wants to discuss copyright issues, photo releases, on the listserv this year.
Robert (chair) asked the group if they wanted a newsletter sent on a monthly basis. It was suggested that he send out monthly reminders to the list to submit articles or updates, info, etc.
Some of the items that came up in the meeting will probably be discussed on the Listserv throughout the coming year.
Debby Weitzel
