New PubSIG members were asked to identify themselves and were warmly welcomed.
2. PubSIG activity of past year
We reviewed PubSIG activity of the past year for each of our six goals:
- To make the PubSIG website more useful to members.
- To increase the value of the C&A program to SIG membes.
- To improve the professional development opportunities for all members.
- To make the PubSIG more useful to members year-round.
- To increase the PubSIG members' sharing of experiences and expertise.
- To help new members feel welcome and understand the benefits of PubSIG
membership.
Note: For more detailed information, refer to the PubSIG Report from spring 2004 (available at the PubSIG web site under "Chair's Reports to the ACE Board").
3. Ideas for new or revised goals and activities for upcoming year
Emulating an idea that has worked for the Leadership and Management SIG recently, we agreed to try having periodic "conversation calls" this coming year. A date/time and topic would be announced in advance, and any PubSIG member who wanted to participate--by contributing to the discussion or simply listening--would call in. Topics suggested included developing entrepreneurial minds, C&A (the Critique and Awards program), and money issues. Thoughts about implementation included having a guest speaker as appropriate (e.g., a C&A judge), rotating leadership of the conversation calls, and having a roundtable at the end of each conversation call.
4. "Trading aces and disgraces"
The bulk of the business meeting was devoted to having each member introduce him/herself and share a resource, idea, experience, or product. (Notes from this editors' swap meet are posted on the PubSIG website, under "Notes from SIG Business Meetings.")
5. Ideas for 2005 ACE/NETC
Members were encouraged to be thinking about ideas for sessions and speakers for next year's conference while participating in this year's conference as well as afterwards, and to forward their ideas to any of the PubSIG leaders. A more formal request to all PubSIG members for ideas for 2005 ACE/NETC will be forthcoming.
6. Other
- PubSIG members were invited to get together for dinner after the Development
Fund auction that evening.
- Those PubSIG members who were going on the Heavenly hike on Wednesday
afternoon were invited to get together for the tour.
7. Development
Carol Whatley spoke briefly about applying for ACE Development Fund grants.
