SIG Report:
-
reviewed end of year report submitted by chair to Board June 30 (http://ctr.uvm.edu/acepubsig/600rpt.htm)
-
discussed good reception of electronic newsletter, new C&A class, good
participation in C&A on par with previous year
-
problems with vacant vice chair for several months, thanks to those who
stepped forward, need to find new vice chair-elect
-
problems with editing class in judging (those who had entries rejected
for lack of marked up copy can resubmit next year and a new judge will
be used)
-
discussed possibility of unlinking some classes from number of colors used
in production, no longer relevant (combine 21a and b, 24 a and b?)
SIG Leaders Session:
-
discussion of SIG Leader Session items of interest need to consolidate
classes, 20 out of 43 had 5 or fewer entries (N=470) [Pub SIG had good
amount of entries in most classes (see totals in June 2000 newsletter http://ctr.uvm.edu/acepubsig/600news.htm),
low entries in 21a, 24a]
-
C&A must be a priority, judges to be named by September
-
SIG web site can be housed by ACE but SIG must maintain it
-
good proposals (Pub SIG new electronic pub is a model) will most likely
be approved
-
Pub SIG also praised for use of regional reps, newsletter and good listserv
discussions
-
option proposed to create an email list from SIG list database for newsletter
distribution and general announcements to reach those who opted to unsubscribe
to the SIG listserv in order to avoid discussions.
Suggestion: form task force (4-5 people) quickly to review C&A
categories to possibly make proposal for consolidation, perhaps work with
graphic design SIG on similar classes, review editing class submission
guidelines
Suggestion: add reference to SIG web page at end of emails to
encourage browsing
Suggestion: combine special report and popular classes, newsletter
and periodical; perhaps work with graphics SIG on their low entry classes
Current discussion topics of interest: e-commerce, copyright,
photo releases
Goals for coming year:
-
C&A review
-
Toronto planning
-
Web site maintenance and enhancement
-
Explore common ground with graphic design and writing SIG for workshops
in Toronto
Judy Rude added that she is planning annual national meeting in October
in Montana for National Resource Management Officers/State Distribution
officers. Will announce it to the listserv. "Who is the officer in my state?"
Judy will distribute the list. This project is part of a cost/share effort.
"What issues will be addressed at the meeting?" Cost sharing, cost recovery.
