1998: Edna Smith

Edna Smith was born in South Dakota and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa.

For 10 years Edna was an extension communications specialist in the department of Agricultural Communications at Texas A&M, producing approximately 100 educational publications each year. She was production manager for Southern Region Aquaculture Center materials and led extension's communications efforts in food safety and literacy programs. She authored the popular Aggies, Moms and Apple Pie, published by Texas A&M University Press.

A member of ACE for nine years, Edna's enthusiasm as state representative sparked a tremendous growth in membership. She served two terms on the International Membership Committee and contributed significantly to the Critique and Awards task force in 1977. She was also active in the local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators.

Edna won numerous awards for editing and publication production from both ACE and IABC, as well as the Superior Service Award from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. In 1994 she received the ACE Service Award. Her community named her Outstanding Woman of the Year in 1980.

Edna Smith died February 25, 1998.
