2003: Linda Raney Kiesel

Linda Raney Kiesel has been an editor with the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service since 1989 and manager of the educational publishing section of agricultural communications services in the college of agriculture since 1995. Before joining the college of agriculture, she was responsible for consumer and community relations as special assistant to the president and chairman of Jerrico Inc., a major foodservice company, where she started her career in 1985 as a corporate communications writer.

Kiesel left undergraduate study at Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 1961 to marry. Fourteen years and four children later, she returned to college and earned a bachelor’s degree in English (1977) at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky, and a master’s degree in English (1982) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In January 2003, she earned a doctorate in higher education in the University of Kentucky’s College of Education.

Kiesel has taught a variety of courses at UK, including issues in agriculture, composition and technical writing, and “writing across the curriculum” programs in the colleges of engineering and allied health.

Kiesel has been an ACE member since 1990. She served as state representative from 1993-1996, and served on the National Development Fund Board from 1997-1998. She has been the recipient of numerous ACE awards, including a first place award in technical publication in 1994, a second place award in editing in 2001, a second place award in technical publication in 1993, a third place award in information campaign in 1994, and a third place award in special publications in 1992. She has also received nine state and regional awards for editing and is a member of Gamma Sigma Delta, the national agricultural honor society.
