INTRODUCTION
At the Pub SIG meeting in Knoxville, we discussed experimenting with an electronic newsletter this year. This will be a monthly compilation of SIG information that is not particularly urgent. It will also be posted on our web site (http://ctr.uvm.edu/acepubsig/) for future reference. Let us know what you think. I will send out a request for material to the regional reps a week or so before mailing this out, so send us information that you would like included. For the moment, please look over in particular the notes from our Knoxville SIG meeting and let us know what are priority issues for you this year. Also look over the description of the new C&A class and send us any suggested changes. Finally, we hope to take advantage of the wonderful work that Meg Ashman and Sue Keller did creating our web site last year. Please submit materials and ideas to it so that we can make it a place for sharing.

UPCOMING MEETINGS
(From Debby Weitzel) Our Western Regional ACE Conference is coming along fine and it's not too late to register. We have over 80 people registered. Check the web site for the latest details on the conference. (http://www.colostate.edu/Orgs/ace-wr99/) If anyone is attending the session on "Design Trends for Publications" and would like their publications critiqued during this session by our presenters, they need to send copies of their publication to: Debby Weitzel, Outreach Communications and Technology, 271 Aylesworth SW, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523-7015, prior to the conference.
(From Judy Rude)The National Resource Management Officers (aka State Publications Distribution Officers) will met in Washington, DC., October 25-26, 1999. This group has met informally over the past 5 years, to share ideas and issues relating to publications and other resources. They will be meeting at the new CSREES Waterfront Centre Headquarters. If you are interested in attending, contact Jodi Horigan, CSREES/CTDE, jhorigan@reeusda.gov or 202-720-6145 for more details.
North Central Regional Workshop: Come visit us in October, among our blue lakes, with the air turning crisp and the leaves turning color. See our "Images" and recharge your "Imagination!" "Image and Imagination" is the theme for the North Central Regional double track Workshop October 3-6, in Madison, Wisconsin. A web site, http://www.cals.wisc.edu/media/ace/, gives the details.
PLANNING FOR D.C.
There is a conference call scheduled on September 9 for SIG leaders, ACE Officers and USACC Planners. It will focus on planning for the meeting in D.C. next July and on the C&A awards program. I will report back to you after that. The Planning Committee is considering a full day of SIG activities, so we should begin brainstorming. I have received from headquarters a copy of the Spring issue of "The Capital Source: The Who's Who, What, Where in Washington" would be very helpful if you are considering an activity which would involve local speakers or locations. Send a note if you would like to borrow it. Also, both our SIG report and any C&A revisions are due September 17. Let me know if you have any suggestions in advance of that date so that I can review them with the entire SIG before submitting them to the board.
NEW C&A CLASS PROPOSAL
At the June ACE/NETC meeting in Knoxville, several people attended a session (and concurrent fire alarm) hosted by Evie Liss and Carol Whatley intended to develop standards and a judging form for a new C&A award class for electronic publications. The session was scheduled by the Publishing SIG but sought the participation of members from other SIG's since electronic publications cross over with several other SIGs. Attendees included Kevin Gamble and Beth Raney (IT), Ashley Wood (Graphics, Comm Mgmt.), Lynn Ketchum (Photo, Electronic Media), Robert Casler (Publishing). The intent was to create a new class for publications that are designed primarily for electronic delivery, as opposed to printed materials that may be available in electronic form. (See Draft of Class ??--Electronic Publication.)
