Ideas wanted for Tahoe conference sessions

Here’s a chance for you to help make the Publishing SIG sessions of the ACE conference even more useful next year: Please send us your ideas for topics or speakers to be featured at our annual meeting June 20-24 in Lake Tahoe.

***** Please e-mail your session ideas to d-bowen@tamu.edu by Friday, Sept. 30. Thanks!

To have even more say in what’s offered in the Tahoe conference, please volunteer to help select and plan our PubSIG sessions. Sign up by replying to the e-mail address above. Same deadline too.

Useful resources needed for sharing with SIG members

One of the most valuable things about SIG membership is the chance to learn from fellow members. An easy but very useful way for everyone to contribute to our pool of knowledge is to forward the name of a publishing resource that you use and would recommend.

We’d like for each SIG member to forward at least one useful resource to be added to the Professional Tools section of our Web site ( http://www.uvm.edu/extension/acepubsig/ ). The categories include Listservs, Style manuals or other references, Professional organizations, Recommended vendors, and Publications-related job descriptions.

To submit a recommended resource, take a look at each of the Professional Tools pages on our Web site, decide what resource you would suggest be added, and then follow the instructions at the bottom of the particular page for the Professional Tool you will submit.

***** Please send your resource recommendation by Oct. 15. We’ll try to have them all posted soon afterward. Thanks again!

Professional development opportunities

– NRMO annual meeting

Sept. 21-23, 2003, College Station, Texas

Product marketing, e-commerce, customer service and publication distribution concerns are among the topics that will be discussed at the National Resource Management Officers organization’s annual meeting next week.

The low registration fee of $65 helps make this conference a big-bang-for-your-buck professional development opportunity. A tour of the George Bush Presidential Museum will also be offered.

For more information, contact Debbie Mitchell at dlmitchell@tamu.edu or 888.900.2577.

– Media Relations Made Easy in the Big Easy

September 28-30, 2003, New Orleans

This workshop will follow a "train-the-trainer" format to help you conduct more effective media relations training for administrators, faculty, staff and others. Participants will leave with a media relations training guide containing educational modules on such topics as why media work is important, what to do when media call, writing news releases and columns, getting to know the media, special considerations for TV / interview tips and strategies, keeping crises contained / crisis communication and how to communicate about controversial issues.

For more details, visit http://www.lsuagcenter.com/ACE.
