The ACE/NETC Double Creature Feature is right around the corner, June 16-19 in Albuquerque. Here are some updates/reminders for those of you heading that way.
1.
Publishing SIG
Session at Albuquerque
The PubSIG meeting
is Monday morning, June 18, from 8:45 to 10:45. Our tentative agenda includes:
Let’s gather for good camaraderie, an occasion to applaud our colleagues, and a chance to help shape important professional development projects for our SIG.
After the
conference welcome reception (5:30 to 6:30), we have a night-out-on-your-own on
Saturday, June 16. PubSIG member, Jim Coats, is planning a Social
Responsibilities Round Table for anyone interested in attending. (Jim was
instrumental in forming the SRRT with a session he led in San Antonio. Last year
in Quebec City, he and Glenda Freeman organized an evening out at a local pub
and arranged for a speaker to lead the discussion.) This year, Jim is lining up
a restaurant for an informal meeting to discuss ACE members’ interests in
planning service projects in association with our annual meetings.
Here are some comments he shared with me:
“I’m thinking that we have a golf tournament and a fun run at our annual
meetings, so why not give folks the option of signing up for a service project
as well? The idea is that each year we would have an opportunity to ‘give back’
to our meeting’s host city by doing some special service for the community. Some
ideas are: a half or whole day at a Habitat for Humanity project, working in a
food [pantry] or free meals center, a park clean-up, or consulting with a local
group to help create a brochure, Web site, or media plan. The folks attending
the dinner would then participate in planning the service project for 2008’s
meeting.”
So, please “save the date” for the night out and I’ll send more specific
information about the time, place, etc., as soon as it is available.
3.
Shuttle Service for Satellite Hotels
For those who were
unable to get a room in the conference hotel, Terry Canup is arranging shuttle
service from the two Homewood Suites hotels to the Embassy Suites. He has asked
that you e-mail him at tcanup@nmsu.edu
regarding your transportation needs.
4.
Monitors Needed for Breakout Sessions
The program
committee needs monitors for all breakout sessions who will serve as
timekeepers, introduce speakers, and collect evaluation forms. If you are
willing to serve, send a list of the sessions you are willing to monitor to Rob
Casler at rcasler@ag.arizona.edu. He
will make assignments on a first-come basis and send you a list of the sessions
you have been assigned to, along with instructions. Monitors will not have to
deal with any technical issues with laptops, projectors, etc. -- the New Mexico
tech crew will handle all that.
5.
Development Fund Auction
If you’ve ever
been to the auction, you know how fun this event is! If you haven’t, you’re in
for a treat. This year the live auction is Sunday evening from 5 to 7, right
before the C&A Banquet. Please consider bringing an item from your state to
include in the auction. It’s for a great cause.
6.
New Member Reception
If you have joined
ACE during the past year, please be sure to attend the New Member Reception,
Saturday afternoon, June 16, from 4:30 to 5:30. We’d love to meet you “in
person,” and it’s a chance to find out more about all the special interest
groups and other opportunities for getting involved in ACE.
And speaking of new PubSIG members, welcome aboard to:
-- Helen White, Kyle McCaskill, and Kevin Leigh Smith
