March 2003 ACE Pub SIG Newsletter

Hi, Publishing SIG members.
I've got four items to report in this month's e-newsletter:

#1 SIG Elections Are Coming!

If you've been wanting to practice your leadership skills, work more closely with colleagues from across the country, and help your fellow publishing professionals get the most out of ACE, have I got a deal for you! We're seeking candidates for our SIG's vice-chair-elect, who will in successive years become vice-chair and then chair of the SIG. The chair, vice-chair, and vice-chair-elect make up the SIG leadership team and share most leadership responsibilities, so the workload isn't all that daunting. The job description for a SIG leader appears on the first two pages of the SIG Leader Handbook (online at http://www.aceweb.org/homepage/organization/sig_leader_handbook.pdf). If you'd like to throw your hat in the ring, send it my way (wjcoats@ucdavis.edu). I like hats. We'll conduct an election via e-mail before April 9.

#2: E-Pubs vs. Print: Can't We Just Get Along?

The results of Diane Bowen's survey on electronic and print publications are now available online at the Publishing SIG web site. Point your browser to http://www.uvm.edu/extension/acepubsig/survey4.htm. You'll find some interesting insights and get an idea of how folks in a number of states are adapting to this evolving e-medium.

#3: SIG Action Plan for 2003-2004: The Prequel

We (the Publishing SIG leadership) are planning to use our SIG business meeting at ACE/NETC to adopt specific goals for the year along with a plan for how to achieve each goal. As preparation for that, we'd like to have your suggestions of goals for the SIG. Take a look at the online suggestion form at http://ucce.ucdavis.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=329&back=none. We'd like to have your suggestions by the middle of March so we can consider them in our April conference call. All suggestions are welcome!

#4: Registration Time: Goin' to (uh!) Kansas City

March 1 is the scheduled opening date for advance registration for ACE/NETC 2003. You can find detailed information on the program schedule, lodging, and related tours and events at the conference home page, http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/kc2003/.

There you go: Four items, four links, what could be simpler? Have a great
month!
