For information, contact Kyle
McCaskill,
Chair, PubSIG.
In This Issue:
1. Your PubSIG is looking for a leader. Nominations are due by March 12!
Your Publishing SIG needs you! SIG Leadership is rewarding and allows you to give back to the SIG and to ACE. Nominations for the next vice chair-elect of the PubSIG are due by Wednesday, March 12. SIG leadership involves a three-year commitment, with a year as vice-chair elect, a year as vice chair, and finally a year as chair. This means that the new leader benefits from two years of mentoring before stepping into the chair position.
Please consider nominating yourself or a colleague by sending an e-mail to me, the current chair, at kmccaskill@umext.maine.edu by March 12. I will send an electronic ballot to the entire SIG so that we choose our next leader by April 1.
2. Traverse City schedule shaping up
Proposals are in for ACE's 2008 annual conference and have been reviewed by the leaders of their respective SIGs. It shouldn’t be long before information on breakout sessions and the schedule is available. More information about the conference, to be held in Traverse City, Michigan, is available at www.ace08.org.
3. “Instruction for Those Who Make Others Look Good”
Registration for the editing workshop, brought to you by your very own PubSIG, will be available on the ACE conference registration form! Plan to arrive one day early and learn from and with people who do what you do, during a full-day workshop on Monday, June 9. Read more on the conference Web site at http://www.ace08.com/default.aspx?tabid=3062.
4. Welcome to two new PubSIG members!
On behalf of our SIG, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to our two newest members:
Janet McCoy
Activities, Events and Program Coordinator III
Alabama Cooperative Extension System
mccoyjl@auburn.edu
and
Carol Swinehart
Communications Manager
Michigan State University/Michigan Sea Grant
cys@msu.edu
5. What do you want from your leaders?
Last month we asked you to start thinking about the kind of information you would find useful via these PubSIG newsletters and how often you’d like to receive it. (For instance, would you like to see professional development stories and tips, profiles of colleagues, etc.?) Think hard: we will be asking you to weigh in this month.
Here in the Northeast we are experiencing a Narnia-like (never-ending) winter. I, for one, promise to give up Turkish Delight (does anyone actually know what that is?) in return for an early thaw this year.
Respectfully submitted by your PubSIG leaders,
Kyle McCaskill, Chair
Kevin Leigh Smith, Vice Chair
Sandra Clarke, Vice Chair-Elect
