Ideas Needed for Professional Development Plan
What is the single-most problematic aspect in your work? What kind of
professional development training do you need to expand your skills or pursue
new areas of interest? Before Christmas, the ACE Professional Development
Committee asked each SIG to “identify one professional development opportunity
that your SIG can plan, deliver, and evaluate in the coming three years. The
event could be as simple as a one-hour presentation/discussion delivered via
distance education technologies, or as grand as a two-day workshop in a location
of your choosing.”
Our professional development plan is due to the committee on February 23. We
need to let them know the type and topic of the event, approximate delivery
dates, and the delivery method.
Let’s generate some ideas and talk about them via a conference call on Friday,
February 16 at 11:30 Eastern (10:30 Central, 9:30 Mountain, and 8:30 Pacific)
for an hour. PubSIG members at Texas A&M in College Station will call 182 (wait
for beep/tone) 99995 (wait for beep/tone) then 187, and all other members call
979-847-9187. However, you don’t have to wait until the call to get ideas
rolling. Feel free to e-mail or call any of the PubSIG officers with any ideas
you have.
2. Award of Excellence Nominations
Award of Excellence nominations are due to Kevin Smith, PubSIG vice chair-elect, on February 16. E-mail your nomination to Kevin at kevlsmith@purdue.edu. For nomination forms, a list of past winners, and a description of the awards, visit http://www.aceweb.org/award/excellence.html).
Note: February 16 is also the deadline for nominations for Pioneer, Professional, Service, and Reuben Brigham awards. Check the ACE Web site, www.aceweb.org, for descriptions and nomination forms.
3.
Opportunity to Serve as a PubSIG Officer
We need someone to become the PubSIG vice chair-elect, effective this summer.
Would you be interested in serving or know someone you'd like to nominate?
Please e-mail nominations to Helen White at
h-white@tamu.edu by March 1.
Once you've served as vice chair-elect, you'll move up to vice chair the
following year and then to Publishing SIG chair the third year.
The three officers meet by phone conference every month or so, help plan the
publishing offerings at the ACE conference, attend to changes in the Critique &
Awards program, handle the Publishing Award of Excellence, and keep the Web page
updated. We divide these chores so that no one has a time-consuming burden.
If you have any questions, contact Helen White, current chair, at
h-white@tamu.edu or 979-862-3309; Kyle
McCaskill, current vice chair, at
kmccaskill@umext.maine.edu or 207-581-3185; or Kevin Smith, current
vice-chair elect, at kevlsmith@purdue.edu
or 765-494-9558.
