Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications

Position Available: September 1, 2010, or as negotiated

Position Description - We seek a tenure-track Assistant Professor with teaching, research, and outreach responsibilities (75% teaching, 25% research appointment).  The selected candidate will contribute primarily to the Department’s strategic objectives in the context of distance education and technology-assisted learning.  Screening of applicants will begin February 15, 2010, and continue until the position is filled.

Major Duties and Responsibilities - The selected candidate will (1) assist in designing, delivering, and administering Department graduate programs offered at a distance, including the Agriculture eLearning Development Certificate, joint Ed.D. (Doc-at-a-Distance) degree, and the Master of Agriculture degree; (2) focus on innovations in graduate programming that meet the needs of early and mid-career professionals in agricultural professions—including careers in extension, education, food and environmental agencies, NGOs, non-profit organizations, and agribusinesses; (3) within the technology-assisted learning workgroup, develop a focused research program that attracts external funding and is communicated broadly through refereed publications; (4) as a secondary focus, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in agricultural communications, extension education, teacher education, leadership education, or international agricultural development, (5) teach graduate and undergraduate courses; and (6) advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications - The selected candidate will have (1) an earned doctorate in the broad field of agricultural education—agricultural communications, extension education, leadership education, teacher education, international agricultural development, or a closely related field; (2) the ability to direct high-quality academic programs and plan innovative educational delivery systems; (3) a clear understanding of the contemporary context of food, agriculture, and international development; (4) the ability to work with learners from diverse backgrounds; and (5) a commitment and sensitivity to issues of diversity.
