. Promotion and publicity

Once you set a registration fee, you must promote your workshop to get people to attend. ACE Headquarters is a great resource to help promote your workshop to the membership:

  • Web site. As soon as you have workshop information, send it to Headquarters for the ACE Web site. If you develop a local Web site, share the URL so ACE can link to it. Keep adding to the Web site whenever you have new information.

  • E-mail. Target ACE members in specific regions and special interest groups by using ACE listservs.

  • Signals. Write articles for the newsletter. Find out the deadlines so workshop articles appear in every issue.

Publicize your workshop to other professionals and students in your area. Expand your promotional efforts to local community college and university faculty, staff and students; other units within your agency or institution; and other professional organizations. Work with student organizations whose members would benefit from the workshop.

Always include as much information about the topics, speakers, costs, and other activities that will encourage people to attend. Help people estimate travel costs and options by including airline, rental car, parking, ground transportation and child care information in early promotional materials.

Provide information about area attractions or tourist activities for participants and family members wishing to extend their stay. See if the hotel will offer the same room rate before and after the workshop. Provide Web links to the local Chamber of Commerce or Visitor's Bureau to help people learn more about the area.

As part of the confirmation materials, consider listing hotel amenities such as swimming pool and exercise facilities, in-room hair dryers and irons, on-site packaging and shipping alternatives, Internet connections, etc.
