John M. Sperbeck ACE President 1989-90 University of Minnesota St. Paul, MN
Jack Sperbeck was born April 13, 1940, in Vesper, Wisconsin, and grew up on a
dairy farm where he was active in 4-H and the Future Farmers of America.
He received a bachelor's degree in dairy science in 1962 and a master's degree in
agricultural journalism in 1967, both from the University of Wisconsin.
He served with the 101st Airborne Division in Kentucky and in Korea from
1962 to 1964. Following the military, he became an extension 4-H agent in
Wisconsin, serving until 1966. Following his master's program in 1967, he
joined the University of Minnesota's department of information and agricultural
journalism as an extension information specialist.
In addition to media planning, writing and editing at Minnesota, he teaches
technical communications in the College of Agriculture and conducts writing
courses and seminars for various groups.
Sperbeck received the ACE Pioneer Award in 1975, and was co-chairman of the
program committee for the 1986 international ACE meeting at
Fargo, North Dakota.
