Wilford Dowdle Porter ACE President 1942-44 Utah Agricultural College Logan, UT
Wilford Porter was born April 23, 1900, in Franklin, Idaho and graduated from
Utah State Agricultural College in 1922. Following graduation, he taught one
year at Morgan High School and five years at South Cache High School in Hyrum,
Utah.
In 1928, he became extension editor and secretary to the director of extension
at the college. In 1934, he took a leave of absence to earn a master's degree in
journalism at the University of Wisconsin. Upon returning to Utah, he continued as
extension editor, taught part-time and did publicity for the college and was promoted to
associate professor of journalism.
Porter was a member of Sigma Delta Chi, Pi Delta Epsilon, Epsilon Sigma Phi,
Alpha Sigma Nu and Phi Kappa Iota. He was also an elder in the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and participated in little theater production.
He died suddenly at his home October 5, 1944 at the age of 44. He was serving
his second term as AAACE president.
