Lorraine B. Kingdon ACE President 1980-81 University of Arizona Tucson, AZ
Lorraine Kingdon, ACE's second woman president, was born February 11, 1927 in
Minot, North Dakota. She received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from North
Dakota State University and a master's degree in agriculture and food economics
from the University of Delaware.
Her first land-grant work was at Delaware in 1965 as an assistant editor. She
left Delaware in 1972 to join the Washington State University staff as a
consumer affairs information specialist. In 1980, she became head of the
aqgricultural communications department at Arizona, switching to
agricultural news editor in 1984.
She received ACE's Agricultural Communications Award in 1971, the
ACE Professional Award in 1976, and the Award of Merit in 1986.
Kingdon retired in 1992 to form her own business, the Communication Skills
Institute, and wrote four books on communications. Kingdon passed away November 20, 2003.
