Lloyd Russell Bostian ACE President 1979-80 University of Wisconsin Madison, WI
Lloyd Bostian was born January 14, 1932, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He
received a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from North Carolina State
University in 1954, a master's degree in agricultural journalism in 1955 and a
doctorate in mass communications in 1959, both from the University of
Wisconsin.
He joined the department of agricultural journalism at Wisconsin as an
instructor in 1955, becoming an assistant professor in 1959, associate
professor in 1962 and professor in 1968. He was chairman of the department
from 1970 to 1974, and was college publications editor much of his career.
At Wisconsin, he taught a dozen courses over the years, later specializing in
publications editing and production, and basic journalistic writing. He received
college and campus teaching and advising awards for outstanding teaching.
Bostian's international experience included two years in Brazil developing
rural information programs and a year at the International Rice Research
Institute in the Philippines as visiting scientist and editor.
Since retiring in January 1994, Bostian spends his time traveling, gardening, biking,
golfing, playing bridge and doing volunteer work.
