Linda Benedict was born in Waterloo, Iowa, August 3, 1947. She received a bachelor's
degree in home economics journalism from Iowa State University in 1969, and a
master's degree in home economics education from the University of Northern Iowa in
1972. The University of Missouri awarded her a doctorate degree in 1994.
She worked part-time in public relations for the Pillsbury Corporation while
going to college. He first job out of college was as a city reporter for the
Waterloo Daily Courier.
From 1971 to 1973, she was a county extension home economist for Iowa
State University, and from 1973 to 1979, she was an extension comunications
specialist at Iowa State.
From Iowa State, Benedict went to Lincoln University at Jefferson
City, Missouri, where she was director of communications. In 1983, she
joined the School of Journalism staff as a visiting instructor and interim
director of the Missouri Health and Nutrition Journalism program.
Her ACE awards include an Award of Excellence in teaching/training in 1986, and
an Award of Excellence in writing in 1991.
She is currently assistant editor and assistant professor at Louisiana State
University, Baton Rouge.
