Marjorie Arbour, the first woman president of AAACE, was born in Baton Rouge in 1893. She began her career at Louisiana State in 1917 as a home demonstration agent. In 1918, she became assistant extension editor, and in 1941, she was named editor.

She received a bachelor's degree in English in 1922 and a master's degree in English in 1925, both from LSU. She taught journalism at LSU while serving in the extension editorial service. She also taught a course in home economics journalism at the University of Tennessee, and conducted special courses in journalism for teachers, ministers and home economists.

Progressive Farmer magazine named her "Agricultural Woman of the Year" in 1948. In 1957, the USDA presented her with a Superior Service Award. She retired from Louisiana State University June 30, 1962. In retirement, she served as a consultant to the Louisiana County Agents Association and did freelance writing. She was a member of Theta Sigma Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Sigma Phi and other organizations. She died in Baton Rouge, November 20, 1971, at the age of 78.
