X. Diversity
Entries in this category must target a special public "with respect to age, class, ethnicity, gender, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, spiritual practice, and other human differences" (Pathway to Diversity: A Strategic Plan for the Cooperative Extension System's Emphasis on Diversity, 1991). Follow the guidelines for submitting items into these other categories: I. Writing; IV. Publishing; V. Electronic Media, Audio; VI. Electronic Media, Video; and VIII. Marketing and Media Relations.
The major difference between this category and the others is the emphasis on targeting the public's demographics (e.g., age, sex, racial group membership), psychographics (e.g., likes and dislikes, values, beliefs) and preferred means of receiving information (e.g., radio, community newspaper, in a language other than English). Describe the problem or opportunity you faced (e.g., non-Englishspeaking people displaced by natural disaster, increase in diabetes among the elderly) and the strategies you used (e.g., targeted media, positive message, spokespersons, collaboration) to address those problems or opportunities. If appropriate, identify the language in which the text was originally written and the language into which it was translated.
