Governing Board
The governing board of the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) is comprised of (1) the officers, namely, the president, president-elect, vice president, and past president, (2) a director for each of the five regions of the United States and one for the international members, (3) a director for retired members of the organization, and (4) a director representing special interest groups elected at-large from the ACE membership. ACE Headquarters serves ex officio as secretary and treasurer.
Officers
A vice president is elected by the membership each year in February. In each successive year, the vice president advances to hold the offices of president-elect, president, and past president.
Directors
The directors are elected by the membership of the region or group they represent. The SIG director is elected at-large by the ACE membership. They serve as voting members of the board for two years.
Before officially taking office, regional directors (directors of the five regions of the United States and the international director), the retirees director and the SIG director serve one year as directors-elect. In effect, directors-elect are nonvoting members of the board during that year and use that time to gain an understanding of ACE and board activity.
During even-numbered years, directors-elect are elected from the north central, southern, D.C., and international regions. During odd-numbered years, the northeastern and western regions and the retired members choose directors-elect and the entire ACE membership elects the SIG director-elect.
Directors are responsible for managing the nomination procedure for directors-elect in accordance with Bylaw B and in consultation with the chair of the Nominating Committee. Balloting usually takes place electronically and by mail at the same time the vice president is elected.
Directors-elect are encouraged to attend board meetings in a nonvoting capacity.
Officers, directors, and directors-elect assume office at the conclusion of the annual meeting.
