Class 18 – Direct mail

Greg Gammon is a 1982 graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in industrial technology. Gammon, along with his wife Angelique, founded Insite Magazine in 1984, a lifestyle publication for Bryan/College Station Texas. In 1993, the Gammons started Insite Printing, a full-service color commercial printer specializing in publication, direct mail and marketing printing.

Class 19 – Newsletters

Jack Chappell is a freelance magazine writer and public affairs consultant in Las Vegas. He was formerly executive director of university relations for the University of California, Riverside, a land-grant institution with a substantial agricultural research component. During 17 years at UC Riverside, he was in charge of public communications, including media relations and university publications. He served as editor of the university's award-winning magazine, developed and implemented marketing initiatives, and wrote speeches and white papers for the chancellor. He is a former daily newspaper journalist and most recently was director of community relations for Nevada Public Radio.

Paul L. Hollis is editor of Southeast Farm Press, a regional agricultural publication with a circulation of approximately 60,000. He also is a partner in Creative Communication Strategies, an editorial services company. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Auburn University, where he served as publication editor and news editor for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. He also has served as city editor for the Opelika-Auburn News. Hollis is an adjunct professor of freshman English at Southern Union State Community College.

Doreen Muzzi is editor of Delta Business Journal, a regional business publication with a circulation of approximately 10,000 readers. She also is owner of TKT Publications, Inc., and a partner in Creative Communication Strategies, an editorial services company. She attended Westfield State College and Delta State University and is a graduate of the Defense Information School. She served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Public Affairs Detachment of both the Massachusetts and Mississippi National Guard. She has served as associate editor of Delta Farm Press; editor of the Delta Agricultural Digest; editor of Louisiana Farmer; associate editor and contributing editor for Mid-South Farmer Magazine; and news editor of The Enterprise-Tocsin. Muzzi is also a freelance contributing writer for several publications and agencies.

Melanie Spencer, formerly a publications editor with the University of Maine’s Cooperative Extension for 12 years, received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Outstanding Professional Skill Award Judge for Publishing Category

Mike Quinn is retired from the office of university relations at the University of California, Riverside. He has 38 years of experience as a magazine and newspaper reporter, as a newspaper and a magazine editor and as a new media manager. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., where he majored in English.

Class 25 – Editing

Robert Griffin has worked as a freelance editor and writer for more than 15 years. He has edited more than 300 books and journals covering such diverse subjects as business, history, civics and social studies, folklore, nursing and health care, special education, psychology, and petroleum engineering.

Before becoming a full-time freelancer, Griffin worked for several publishing houses, including the University of South Carolina Press, Memphis State University Press, Bruccoli Clark Publishers, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and Southern Methodist University Press. He also worked as an editor and technical writer for the Texas House of Representatives and is co-author of a four-volume reference set about world holidays, published in 2000.
