. Distance Education and Instructional Design Judge

Class 34a – Educational project, Credit
Class 34b – Educational project, Non-credit
Outstanding Professional Skill Award Judge for Distance Education and Instructional Design Category

Peggy Hines graduated from Morehead State University (MSU) with a master's degree in communications in 1996. During her time at MSU, Hines worked with the Office of Distance Learning, helping faculty learn new technology for teaching with the university's new interactive video system. Working closely with faculty in the School of Education, Hines developed foundational knowledge in educational theory and teaching strategies, and developed an interest in the practice of teaching with technology.

Since 1996, Peggy has collaborated with a range of institutions -- nationally and internationally -- in developing distance learning courses and programs and technology-enhanced communications systems.

Peggy works one-on-one with faculty from a variety of disciplines to develop courses for Web-based delivery, face-to-face technology-enhanced courses, and two-way video courses. She has worked with educators across disciplines in institutions from high schools to community colleges and universities, and she has been called on as a consultant by educational institutions, governmental agencies, international partners, nongovernmental agencies and businesses to provide both technical expertise and instructional design services.

In 1998, Peggy joined the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University as the developer of the university's first online degree program. In addition to assisting faculty in developing the curriculum for the new program and helping the faculty learn to teach in the new environment, she established the policies and procedures for the program and nurtured and facilitated a community of practice for the faculty teaching in the program. She also facilitated a learning community for the distance learning students and developed training programs for faculty development.

Today, Peggy is the coordinator for faculty development and lead instructional designer for the Office of Career Education at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
