Distance Education and Instructional Design Class Descriptions
A distance education project is an organized set of instructional objectives, activities and processes designed to
be presented to learners who are separated (in space or time) from the instructor or from a traditional on-campus
classroom. Instruction could be mediated through the mail, audioconferencing, audiotape, videoconferencing,
videotape, satellite, computer, Internet, DVD or other appropriate technologies. An instructional design project
represents the systematic application of instructional principles to achieve effective learning. These design
principles can be used in both formal and informal learning environments. All entries in this category should
include representative samples of the instructional materials or delivery methods used, such as course notes or
handouts, audio, video, DVD, software, WWW addresses, needs assessments or final evaluations.
Class 34a — Educational project, credit. Entries include educational experiences designed to award
institutional credit (includes credit hours, CEU, certification, etc.). Submit a brief synopsis that describes
the objectives, educational design, learning activities, instructional materials, evaluation
methods and outcome results.
Class 34b — Educational project, non-credit. Entries include educational projects designed for
non-credit (in-service training, outreach, etc.). Submit a brief synopsis that describes the objectives,
