I’ve been an ACE member since 1999 and have had the opportunity to serve the organization in a number of leadership roles. I’ve served as Tennessee state representative, two terms on the Membership Committee (committee member and later chair), chair of the Planning Committee for the 2014 ACE/NETC Conference in Indianapolis, and two terms on the ACE Board of Directors (Southern Region Director and Learning Community Director).
While Learning Community Director, I had the pleasure to collaborate with a fantastic group of Learning Community leaders. We worked to change the dynamics of how we deliver professional development to the membership. We realized that to increase the value of an ACE membership, professional development needs to be year round and not just at the annual conference. Our Learning Communities delivered webinars designed not only to provide valuable professional development information to enhance the membership experience, but to also foster an atmosphere of collaboration in a “Learning Out Loud” environment.
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that ACE is more than a professional development organization. It’s truly a group of colleagues that are there to help you grow both professionally and personally. As an ACE member, I’ve always received more than I could give in return. That’s why serving in leadership roles is so important. It’s an opportunity to do my part to help grow, improve and move our organization forward.
When asked to run for ACE Vice President, I was honored and humbled. If elected, I plan to build on the momentum of those who served before me, but there’s still work to do. We need to expand our efforts in diversity, develop collaboration and partnerships and find new ways provide our members with the latest professional development. We face a number of challenges, but the ACE leadership is committed to maintaining our relevance as a leader in giving you the tools you need to grow your career. I’m hopeful that I will have the opportunity to once again serve the membership as the next ACE Vice President as we move into the future.
Thank you for all you do for ACE! Doug Edlund
